Anti-Ragging Campaign

Directives of the Hon’ble Apex Court FIR without delay Exemplary and justifiably harsh punishment as a deterrent Priority trial by the Courts Guilty student’s expulsion or refusal of admission Authorities / functionaries liable for failure to act or delay.

 

What Constitutes Ragging:

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts as listed in the UGC Regulations, 2009:

• any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student;
• indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or
• psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student;
• asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student
• any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;
• exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
• any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students;
• any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
• any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;
• any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

Measures Taken by the Manav Rachna International University:

• Educating / updating the students enrolled in various programmes in the beginning of each academic session that there is zero tolerance for ragging and the University takes a very serious view of ragging in any form and is committed to creating conditions that prevent perpetration of any act of ragging and to take strict and prompt action against the delinquent student found abetting / involved in any act of ragging.
  

• Appropriately / adequately sensitizing and counseling the students not to indulge in any act of ragging and to apprise them of the consequences which they may have to face, if found involved in any such act.
  

•   Strictly enforcing the relevant provisions of the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 and the Haryana Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institution Ordinance, 2012, besides, disseminating the details of the above said regulations to the students enrolled.

In addition to the above:

(a)     each student as well as his/her parents/ guardian, are mandatorily required to submit separate undertakings in the form of an affidavit at the time of admission / registration to the effect that they are aware of the prohibition of ragging and the punishment prescribed both under penal laws as well     as under these regulations.

(b)     anti-ragging hoardings, banners, billboards are displayed at prominent places including hostels, canteens, messes, cafeterias, buses, playgrounds, lawns, labs, workshops etc. A close and strict vigil is ensured by the anti-ragging squads at all the locations considered vulnerable to occurrences of ragging incidents.

(c)     a close and regular liaison is maintained with the local police to guard against the incident of ragging

(d)     in addition to the anti-ragging helpline (180-180-5522) and helpline@antiragging.net started by the UGC, MHRD (Govt. of India), MRIU Helpline No. 9650408080 (Control room) and help@mriu.edu.in, help@mrei.ac.in have been pressed into service for the purpose.
